What's on the Ballot
The 2026 Ellis County ballot includes races for County Judge, County Commissioner (Precincts 1 & 3), Sheriff, Tax Assessor-Collector, and several judicial seats, plus two bond propositions.
How to Use This Guide
Key Races
County Judge — The County Judge presides over Commissioners Court and oversees the county budget. This is the most powerful administrative role in Ellis County government.
County Commissioner Pct. 1 & 3 — Commissioners vote on road projects, county contracts, tax rates, and emergency management funding.
Sheriff — Oversees the Ellis County Sheriff's Office, jail operations, and law enforcement policy.
Bond Propositions
Proposition A — Road & Bridge Improvements ($45M)
Funds resurfacing of 120 miles of county roads and replacement of 8 aging bridges. Estimated tax impact: ~$0.03 per $100 valuation.
Proposition B — Ellis County Jail Expansion ($28M)
Adds 200 beds and a mental health diversion unit to the current facility. No new tax rate increase proposed — funded through existing debt capacity.

Voter ID Requirements
Texas requires photo ID to vote. Acceptable forms include: Texas Driver License, Texas ID Card, Texas Handgun License, U.S. Military ID, U.S. Passport, or Citizenship Certificate with photo. Expired IDs accepted if within 4 years of expiration.
