Replace all [BRACKETED TEXT] with your information. Always write in third person. Lead with the most newsworthy fact — not the background. Keep to one page (400 words max). End with "###".




Template 1: Campaign Announcement

Template 3: Policy Position

AP Style Quick Reference


  • Spell out numbers one through nine; use numerals for 10 and above
  • Months: Jan., Feb., Aug., Sept., Oct., Nov., Dec. (others spelled out)
  • No Oxford comma
  • Titles before names: County Judge Jane Smith (not Jane Smith, County Judge)
  • Percent: 42% (not 42 percent in body copy)
  • Always use AM/PM (7 p.m., not 7pm)
